A LITTLE BIT OF BROOKLYN IN A MILANO HOTEL

[MILANO, ITALY] — There are so many great hotels I wanted to try in Milano. Scouring through Tablet Hotels, I found this totally groovy little boutique hotel called The Yard in the totally happening, canal-laden Navigli neighborhood — a once derelict area of shipping canals that were constructed as way back as the 1100s that has been recently been gentrified and updated to be a lively night time and retail area. (also have seen is spelled Naviglio) The area feels like Östermalm in Stockholm or Canal Saint-Martin in Paris, with a bunch of intersecting canals, lined with restaurants and bars and thousands of roving people. I had no idea this even existed in Milano.

They Yard is a collector’s paradise, with an insane collection of antique car and sporting things, collected over the years by the hotel’s owner. It’s like a funkified Ralph Lauren collection. With a ginormous outdoor bar/gathering area, with huge tables, big comfy couches and oodles of things to stare at in wonder. And an excellent cocktail bar, complete with suited and bearded mixologists, perfect for enjoying a ‪#‎negroni‬ or other fine crafts away from the flow of people on the outside. And it has 19 out of 20 on Tablet Hotel’s believe-it customer rating system.

Every room has a different design theme and related antiques. The finish levels are some of the finest I’ve seen, with plenty of room and awesome bathrooms. I stayed there twice, coming and going from the Dolomites, staying in a different room each time. I loved the first one, a car-themed/stripey room– I’m a freak about B&W stripes, so it brought out the best in my OCD. And the second, the Face Off room, just opened the week before I got there and is equally dreamy.

But the best part? (and you’ll read a lot about it in all the reviews) The breakfast. Just perfect.

The whole place was just such a trip. Totally genuine. Totally unique. And not what you’d expect when you hear the words “Hotel in Milano”.  You should stay here. Or stop by for a drink. And you can’t beat the location, walkable to most everything. Even Trip Advisor people agree on it.  Here is an AWESOME guide from Conde Nast Traveler all about Milano. And here are other options to stay from Conde Nast Traveller UK edition. And CN Traveller has about the best guide there is. Everything Milano right here.
