In a near perfect hotel, a near perfect room. You can take all the fancy, non-functional “mod” boutique rooms in the world and gently replace with this one. The muted colors and timeless style make me want to rethink everything.
[LISBON, PORTUGAL) — The Hotel Barrio Alto is one of the most perfect hotels I’ve stayed in. A small hotel right of the main Praca Luis de Carnões square near Chiado, it’s the ideal location to explore all the shops, restaurants and sites of winding streets of Barrio Alto. The decor is elegant and understated, with muted tones and colors, exquisitely detailed furniture and a color scheme that just makes you want to lay down and take a nap. The bathrooms are my new favorite, of any hotel I’ve staying in. Elegant simplicity at it’s finest. Every single person working there remembers your name instantly and goes out of their way to help you, even just getting out the door. Super nice people.
Definitely spend the little extra for a Prestige room, worth every penny. The standards of this hotel for the money are the best I’ve experienced in a long time. There’s a great rooftop bar that gets really crowded, but if you hit is just right, it’s the perfect way to cool down from a day of going up and down hills. (Note: they have an awesomely Democratic system of seating, where first-come-best-seat rules. So even if you get a seat at the back of the terrace, the extremely nice guys will move you up as better seats come available, letting new people then take your seat. Quite fun to watch.)
The style of this bathroom, with it’s high ceilings, muted colors and amazing vintage tile is my new favorite of any bathroom I’ve stayed in.
The style of the Hotel Barrio Alto gives the term “understated” a whole new meaning. Elegant, sophisticated lines, with just about everything you need.
The location of the Hotel Barrio Alto is, as it says, in the perfect location in Barrio Alto. A perfect base to explore the winding streets and cafes of the Barrio Alto.
The warm, muted colors of the room reflect the light that comes in during the setting days. You walk in from the heat and instantly want to take a cold shower and a long nap. And the rooms are perfectly sound-proofed. Definitely spend the little extra to get a Prestige room.
One of the best things about the Hotel Barrio Alto is the rooftop bar. It’s tiny, gets crowded, but if you make it before sunset, it’s the perfect place for a cool-off cocktail
As in this, perfect Madrid-style gin-tonic. The perfect cap to a hoofin’ it day going up and down Lisboa.
Between the views, the water, the hills, and the bridge, you can see why people say Lisboa reminds them of San Francisco…except the people are nice. 🙂
A perfect way to cool down after a hot day.
