Loved this post! I visited Brântome yesterday on the advice of a friend who had read it. 🙂 What a gorgeous and historic village. Just one clarification: A municipal sign by the iconic bent bridge (Pont Condé) states that it was built in the 1500s by Bertrand du Guesclin. When I got back to my Airbnb I Googled it and found: “In 1538 to 56, Bertrand du Guesclin, battling the English Angevins built a right-angled bridge, the Pont Coudé, over the river, which connected the elegant Renaissance abbot’s lodging he had built for himself with a lovely garden garden, which lay on the opposite bank.” Wikipedia says something similar. The mill hotel and restaurant look divine and it was lovely to read your descriptions and see picture of the rooms! Happy Travels! Marc Reply
Wow, thank you so much for the comments and correction, Marc! I think I had my wires crossed. Thanks for letting me know! Glad you got to go to Brantôme. Reply
Hey – great post! I’m planning a trip to the Dordogne for the first time in May and this hotel caught my eye on Booking.com, it looked so charming I was thinking of basing our trip around it. Your blog post has confirmed it, thanks for the tip on booking direct and to stay in the Mill building. How many nights would you recommend staying here for? Reply
Oh thanks for writing Victoria! I hope you like the hotel. I stayed 3 nights and wanted more, but also most of the main sites I wanted to see were along the Vézère River, which is an hour + drive. So if you wanted to see the same area, you can save that time going/coming each day by staying in a town south of the A89. Or Sarlat or Bergerac. But Brantome and the hotel are outstanding. One caveat about Booking.com: My sister booked her trip to the same hotel on Booking.com but when she showed up the hotel had zero records of her reservation from Booking.com and they were completely sold out, as were most of the nearby hotels. The hotel was actually very helpful to find her another hotel even though it wasn’t their fault and Booking.com provided no help. So my rule is to never use those major booking sites except to research, only book directly with a hotel. Have a blast! Let me know how your trip went! — Dan Reply
